Buses

IPART’s 2008 review of Newcastle services and review of bus fares will commence in mid August.

IPART will set maximum fares for Sydney metropolitan buses (including Sydney Buses and private operators) and outer-metropolitan buses (Blue Mountains, Wollongong, Newcastle, the Central Coast and the Hunter) under section 28J of the Passenger Transport Act.

IPART will set maximum fares for Newcastle Ferry services under section 11 of the IPART Act.

IPART will also recommend fare increases for rural and regional buses to the Minister for Transport under an arrangement (terms of reference) approved by the Premier.

To commence the review process, IPART has requested fare proposals from the Ministry of Transport for Newcastle services, metropolitan and outer-metropolitan buses, and the Bus and Coach Association for rural and regional buses. Once we have received them, the fare proposals will be posted on the website and IPART will publish a fact sheet explaining the fare proposals and the review process in more detail.

IPART will seek submissions to inform its decisions. The due date for submissions will be published on the website shortly and in relevant newspapers. More information on how to make a submission to IPART is available here.
