IPART determines maximum fares for buses in Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and the Hunter. This includes services provided by the State Transit Authority and private bus operators.
IPART is currently reviewing its approach to setting fares for these bus services. As part of this review, we have developed a more rigorous approach for setting bus fares and have made a draft determination using this approach. The determination will set fares for a four-year period from January 2010.
We have released a draft report explaining our new approach, including the fare outcomes and the draft decisions that led to these outcomes.
We invite all interested parties to make submissions in response to this draft report, and will consider these submissions before making our final determination in December 2009.
The due date for submissions is 16 November 2009. Given the timetable for this review, we will be unable to grant any extensions to this due date.
