Corporations that wish to supply water or provide sewerage services must obtain a licence. There are two types of licences:
- A network operator's licence - a network operator's licence must be obtained to construct, maintain or operate water industry infrastructure;
- A retail supplier's licence - a retail supplier's licence must be obtained to supply water (potable or non-potable) or provide sewerage services by means of water industry infrastructure.
