How to apply for a Special Variation

Our former CEO, Hugo Harmstorf explains how to apply for a Special Variation.

Video Transcript:

Hugo: Applying for a Special Variation through IPART can be a smooth process, if you prepare well in advance.

From our website portal you can download the 2 Application Forms, which guide you through the information we require to assess your application. You should also contact us early, to assist you through the process. There are 4 main steps.

Hugo writes: IP&R documents.

Firstly, your IP&R documents must be up to date and show the need for and extent of the Special Variation. This takes a long time to complete.

Hugo writes: Consult.

Secondly, it’s essential you consult with your community, on the Special Variation. Do this before December.

Hugo writes: Notify.

Third, after the rate peg has been announced, you need to formally notify us in writing that you intend to apply.

Hugo writes: Apply.

Four, make sure you get your application to us by the due date in February and we'll be in touch.

The Office of Local Government publishes Guidelines which outline the criteria, we use to assess your  application. Our Portal changes each year, so check to make sure you have the most up-to-date guidelines and information. We want to ensure that you have as much time as possible to prepare your application.
