The Tribunal reviews taxi fares annually, using the powers provided under Section 9 of the IPART Act, and in accordance with the terms of reference provided by the Premier. The Tribunal then reports its findings to the Minister for Transport.
We estimate how much the cost of providing taxi services has changed over the previous 12 months based on the movement in two industry-specific cost indices, known as the Taxi Cost Indices (TCIs).
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales (the Tribunal) is undertaking its annual review of fares for taxi services in the state. Based on this review, it will recommend changes to these fares from 1 July 2004.
The Tribunal has determined that most standard ticket fares increase on average by 2.9 per cent before rounding, and that the off-peak discount may be reduced from an average of 39 to around 30 per cent.
IPART recommends maximum fares for regular private ferry services in New South Wales under Section 9 of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal Act. IPART also determines maximum fares for the Stockton ferry under Section 11 of this act.
IPART is reviewing taxi fares outside Sydney and will recommend maximum fares to apply from July 2015. The release of an issues paper is the first stage of our review.
