We are seeking comment on our approach to reviewing taxi fares and licence numbers from 2014.

The Tribunal is commencing its annual review of fares for taxi services in NSW. The review is being conducted in accordance with Terms of Reference provided by the Premier.

The Tribunal reviews taxi fares annually, using the powers provided under Section 9 of the IPART Act, and in accordance with the terms of reference provided by the Premier. The Tribunal then reports its findings to the Minister for Transport.

IPART is reviewing maximum taxi fares in Sydney and the number of new annual taxi licences to be issued; both will apply from July 2015. 

Terms of Reference - Review of fares for Taxis from July 2014

IPART is conducting a review of taxi fares for NSW and will be making recommendations to the Minister for Transport on the taxi fares to apply from July 2011.

As part of its 2006 review of taxi fares, the Tribunal decided to review this approach and assess alternative approaches for recommending fare changes.

IPART is calling for public submissions on how best to set NSW taxi fares. Following a review of taxi licence numbers in Sydney, we are considering new approaches to setting fares to increase affordability and grow taxi patronage.

Discusses the results of the taxi cost survey completed by PricewaterhouseCoopers and other issues that will be considered in the 2008 taxi review. Also sets out specific issues for comment. Submissions are due on 4 March 2008.
